Outreach Committee: Report to the Parish, October 2020
Each Spring the Outreach Committee receives a budget from the Vestry from which we make our outreach donations. The Vestry has decided on a tithe for the Outreach budget, so the Committee receives 10% of the parish's total pledge amount. In the past, the Committee has distributed this budget into three categories of nonprofit organizations; local, national, and international. We have favored organizations where parishioners are involved as volunteers.
This year, the Covid-19 pandemic has changed everything - in our personal lives, our government, and our Church. The Committee has discussed how we can respond to this crisis in a meaningful way. After serious discussion, we agreed that we would change how we distribute our resources. For the time being, we will send donations solely to local agencies who supply basic human needs, such as food, shelter, heat, and clothing to our neighbors in need. In addition to our financial support, we encourage parishioners to volunteer time and energy to these organizations and to donate to Scott's Discretionary Fund. The Committee unanimously approved this plan and the Vestry reviewed it.
As we look ahead to 2021, the Committee will continue with this plan. In response to our parish concerns, we are also researching agencies that support restorative justice and combat racial inequality.

'I VOW to myself and to each of you:
To commit myself daily to the healing of our world
and to welfare of all beings.
To live on Earth more lightly and less violently in the food, products, and energy I consume.
To draw strength and guidance from the living Earth, the ancestors, the future generations, and my sisters and brothers of all species.
To support others in our work for the world and to ask for help when I need it.
To pursue a daily practice
that clarifies my mind, strengthens my heart, and supports me in observing these vows.'
by Joanna Macy
'I trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all the ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct thy paths.' Proverb 3: 5,6
